Youth Programming

We offer programs for all ages and stages. Check our calendar for the most up-to-date information.  Note than children our policy allows children 11 years of age or older to be left without parental supervision. 

Some of our most popular offerings:

Meet n’ Play: Fridays, year round, 10am – 12pm. The “usual” toys in our Children’s Area are removed and replaced with a  whole new selection perfect for ages 5 and under. Drop in for this free-play time.

Toddler Storytime: Tuesdays, 10:15 – 10:45AM, seasonally. Toddlers aged 2 – 3 and their caregivers enjoy themed stories, song and a craft. Siblings welcome. Drop-in; no registration needed. This program and its contents is repeated Wednesday. Families are welcome to attend one or both days.

Preschool Storytime: Tuesdays, 11 – 11:45AM, seasonally. Children over the age of 3 and under age 5, enjoy themed stories, song and a craft. Caregivers remain; siblings welcome. This program differs from Toddler Time in the length of stories, complexity of craft projects, and additional school readiness content.

Storytime: Wednesday, 10:15 – 10:45AM, seasonally. All children 2 – 5 welcomed to this mash-up of Toddler and Preschool Time, where we enjoy themed stories, song and craft. Caregivers remain, siblings welcome. We take the best of Tuesdays’ Toddler and Preschool sessions and adapt to the day’s attendees!

Preschool Fine Motor Storytime: monthly, on a Friday. Ages 3 – 5 and a caregiver enjoy a story and then move through multiple art and activity stations encouraging fine motor development. Drop in. Some activities will not be suited for younger siblings due to materials/tools used. 

Build and Play: Thursdays, 10:30 – 11:15AM, every other month (alternates with Preschool Movement). Ages 2.5 – 5 enjoy a read-aloud and then plenty of time to build with a variety of toys and manipulatives. Drop in. This may also run as Patio Play, outdoors, with water stations, bubbles, and more!

Preschool Movement: Thursdays, 10:30 – 11:15AM, every other month (alternates with Build and Play). 3 to 5 year olds engage in activities that promote balance, strength, flexibility, and coordination. Siblings cannot participate in this event. Registration required for each class.

Read to Anita: 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, 5 – 6PM. Register your child to read aloud to Anita, a German Shepherd certified with Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Ages 5 and older. Children must be able to read independently. Note: One child reads to Anita at a time; the 2nd attendee is the accompanying adult.

Homework Help: Mondays, 5:30 – 7:30PM, typically October – May. Provided by student volunteers from the John Jay H.S. Math Honor Society. K – 6 graders from any school can receive help in any subject. This program takes place on the public floor- caregivers must remain in the building. Bring workbooks/textbooks needed to complete your work. First come, first served, drop-in.

Crafternoons: varying time times and dates. School aged children drop in and create arts and crafts.

Lego Lab: monthly, 4:30 – 5:30PM. Lego building inspired by a theme; suggested for ages 5 – 12.
