About & Mission

The mission of the East Fishkill Community Library is to provide residents of East Fishkill access to information and knowledge nourished by ever-improving collections, technology, and programming and a helpful, knowledgeable staff in order to enhance the cultural, social and economic vitality of the community.

Organized in 1938, the library is now in its third location in the town. Our current location opened in 1988. The building was expanded to almost double its size in 2000. In 2006 the community voted to approve the formation of the East Fishkill Public Library District creating a stable funding platform with elected trustees to ensure the Library’s future.

We are an independent public library, governed by a board of 9 trustees who live in the East Fishkill service area. Three run for office each year and they serve three-year terms. It is the board’s responsibility to make policies, develop long-range planning, secure adequate funding and hire a competent director to run the day to day operations.

The majority of our budget is voted on by eligible voters of East Fishkill. A vote is only brought before the community if the library requests a change to the current funding level. We do receive also some monies from New York State.

The Library serves the community with over 90,000 books, magazines, newspapers, audio books, music CDs and DVDs, museum passes and Library of Things items, provision of multiple computers for patron use, access to streaming video, eBooks, eAudiobooks and databases with magazine and newspaper articles not found through free Internet search engines, and scanning, copying and faxing availability.  We have one of the busiest programming schedules in the area. The East Fishkill Community Library has developed into a cultural hub with over 80,000 visits per year. Membership in the Mid-Hudson Library System enables local residents to access materials in five counties and beyond.
