The Library vote is scheduled for Thursday, 10/1 from noon to 9 PM in the Library Rotunda. TAX LEVY The Library Board of Trustees approved a proposed tax levy of $1,260,044 at the August 24, 2026 Board Meeting. The proposed levy represents an increase of $71,323. The full budget breakdown can be viewed on the library’s website. How will this affect you? For a home with a property value of $475,000 the proposed levy would result in an estimated increase of approximately seven dollars on the annual property tax bill. That is about 59 cents per month. Why is the library asking for this increase? The significant increase in the cost of medical coverage for staff is one of the primary factors behind the proposed increase. The proposed levy would also cover higher basic operating expenses, particularly substantial increases in utility costs, as well as allowing a small increase for virtual materials such as E-books which remain in high demand. TRUSTEES There are 3 three-year terms, 1 two-year term, and 1 one-year term open on the Library Board of Trustees. Four of our current Trustees are running for re-election as well as one new candidate. Brendan Carr, Lori Cassidy, Lisa Jeanneret, Richard Sweirat, and Roberta Wiener will appear on the ballot. ABSENTEE VOTING For those who are home-bound, or who will be unable to vote in person due to school, business, or vacation, absentee ballot applications are available at the library and on the website. Completed absentee ballots must be returned to the library by 9 p.m. the day of the vote, October 1, 2026. Eligible East Fishkill voters who are registered with the Dutchess County Board of Elections as permanent absentees will automatically receive a ballot mailed to their home.
