Library of Things

The Library of Things.  What are they?

These are the “not-books”, “not-DVDs”, “not-magazines” of the modern public library.  Not every library has a LoT and among those that do, each collection is unique to that location. What they have in common is that they are useful things that a person might need for a short while but not need to buy, such as a lawn game or a mobile hot spot.  These are things that could enhance your life, fill an immediate need or just give you a chance to explore something new.  You could test out a ukulele or a sewing machine or try some happy lights to see if they really do improve your mood. Or you could borrow a lawn game for your next family cookout.

Click on the links below to see the items in catalog and get a description of each. If you have a suggestion for an item to add to the Library of Things collection, just let us know.

This collection is only available to East Fishkill card-holders age 18 and older.  Even though you can’t place a hold, if you call us, we’ll check that the item is available and can put it aside for you for two hours.

Our Library of Things can be checked out for 21 days; there are no holds and no renewals; overdue charges are $5.00 per day, with a maximum of $25.  And, because it’s a fairly scarce resource, there’s a limit of one per family at a time.
